Planning for symbolic still-life project

Describe briefly your plan for The Symbolic Still Life project. Explain what kinds of objects you think you will use and why...how do they relate to some aspect of your theme. How will you arrange them and why? What materials will you use for this project and how big will you be working and why?

Don't forget...in addition to writing here on your blog make three thumbnail sketches in your SB to plan the composition of the work

I will use objects i have found around my house and in my forest.
I have collected pine cones, a glass bottle, a branch, a felt red robin and bark.
I decided to use these objects because the forest around my house is really important to me. It somewhat defines my house and it is the first thing I think of when I think of my house.

Obviously these object relate to my forest and trees and such. I have arranged them in a way that I think looks really cool.

I will use oil pastels because I think I can create a really cool texture and mixture of smooth and texturey loook.

planning for opposites

Describe briefly what you plan to do for the Opposites project. Be sure to describe your intentions, how your concept relates to your theme, and technically how you plan to create the work.

I plan to have 2 juxtaposed pictures of trees with words surrounding them.

One will have a tree created from natural resources like leaves, bark, and grass. This will be surrounded by words like "pollution, gas, CO2."

One will have a tree created from man-made objects like cell phones, computers, and ipods. This will be surrounded by words like "leaves, grass, and bark."

My intentions are to create an image through words comparing man-made objects and natural resources. I think the words will help put into perspective how humans don't pay attention to nature as much as they should, and they don't consider the effect pollution and hazardous waste will have on the environment.

I will use paper, glue and magazine cutouts.

Thematic Portfolio #2: Images From Images Project

Write a short reflection about how the work turned out. What do you think are the successful aspects of your work?

I thought overall my Images from Images project was successful.
I used an array of materials: paper, spices, charcoal, paint, sharpie and oil pastels.

I think all 3 of my projects had a good sense of creativity and thinking outside of the box. I think I could have done more with blowing up my 2 note cards to create a bigger image of the same image.

Statement of purpose

On your blog write a statement of purpose for the term using the following questions as a guide:

What questions can you formulate about your theme (at least 4)?

- Why are trees a good topic for art-ing?

- What concepts can I bring into my artwork?

- What different perspectives can I create work from?

- What is interesting about trees?

- How can I dig deeper into trees?

How does your theme connect to your life?

I see nature every day and nature consists of this beauty unmatched by anything else. It is pure and a crisp subject. I am immersed in nature and taking a walk through a forest is the easiest way for me to feel "real," calmed, and cleared of any negative emotions.

How does your theme connect to the world around you?

Just look around you.

What kinds of images come to mind when you think about your theme?

Trees, flowers, oceans, sky, animals, rocks, plants, fruit, grass, leaves, dirt, and oxygen.

What kinds of art or visual information (advertising, tv, film) have you seen that relates to your theme?

Plenty of art: paintings, drawings, videos, and photographs.

Why did you choose this theme and how can you envision exploring it through works of art over the course of the term?

I envisions working only on the subject of Trees and what relates to trees: leaves, flowers, fruit, birds, and wood.

I want to use many different materials: markers, scraps of paper, newspaper, charcoal and pencil, paint, and sharpies.

Essential Questions Response

How do artists develop content and ideas for their work?

Artists develop ideas by being inspired by something and thinking of a topic that could easily (or be a challenge) for them to put onto a piece of paper. Also their emotions our their life history could contribute to some inspiration and some need, per se, to create a piece.

What kinds of techniques, behaviors, and habits allow artists to turn their ideas into meaningful works of art that engage the viewer?
Allowing sufficient time to complete a project, expanding ideas, sometimes restricted materials to challenge oneself, thinking "outside of the box", asking for critical feedback, honing in an a specific topic and not being too broad.
